WHEN I WAS YOUNGER, and up until as recently as ten years ago, if you were to look into my closet, everything was black.
I had black shoes and black boots.
Black dresses, skirts and suits.
Black jeans, sweats, shirts, blouses and jackets.
Everything was black.
My dad used to call me Diana Cash, referencing Johnny Cash, who as we know wore all black.
A whole host of people from family to co-workers to friends tried relentlessly to convince me to add a little colour to my wardrobe.
Finally, I gave in and began purchasing clothes with some colour.
Not big nasty flowers or prints or anything like that… but colour just the same.
I added reds and blues and yellows and even some BLING!
Truth be told, black kind of makes me look pale and blotchy anyway.
The good news is, now I have lots of colour!
The other good news is that I got the part-time job I applied for and I start in November!
Ironically, I’m required to wear ALL BLACK!
~ HUMP DAY CHRONICLES ~
If you need me, I’ll be out shopping for black clothes. 😉
Life’s like that.

Diana as I age the black does not look as good on my skin, so yes a little colour is seeping into my wardrobe.

Great. I used wear a lot more solid black garments near my face 25 years ago.
Now it’s black occasionally. I don’t think of “safe” colours –and believe me as a cyclist, a “safe” colour is a very bright, bold solid colour– high visibiiity yellow, red, etc.
It’s necessary prints, etc….just single, solid jewel-bright colours…suited for someone with black hair.

Yes, bright colours, and perhaps reflective strips on the helmet and clothing, are safe for cyclists Jean! 😀

Congrats on the job! I find that in recent years that I’m buying more black, browns, grays, and other “safe” colors. It seems like few people at work, or events I attend, wear clothes with bright colors–and I end up feeling like I stand out if I am wearing bright colors (even if I think I look good in them).

I never thought of them as ‘safe’ colours Sheryl, but you could have a point there!
Please, let me be the first to encourage you to wear the colours you feel good in, even if you stand out, especially if you stand out! ❤

Congrats on the new job, Diana! I like black, but grays and browns are my favorites. See? It is possible to be more plain than all black–keep the bling, though 🙂

It’s only recently, after much prompting from one of the offspring, that I’ve stopped wearing black…I thought it was slimming and looked good with my colouring. Anyhoo…
Congrats on the job!! That’s exciting 🙂

Congratulations on the job!
I too have worn black black black for most of my working life.
Recently (in my non-working life) I have turned to blue, especially cobalt blue.
It is uplifting to dress in a bright colour rid myself of the dark, sombre colour (and mood).
Good luck with your work 🙂

Congratulations on the job! Dressing in black… I know, you got a part-time job as a violinist for the local orchestra! (They always have to dress in black.)
Alternate guess: Bounty Hunter! I believe they wear black so they can lurk in the shadows as they hunt down their prey!
And I guess I’ll have to start calling you Lady Cash now?
