Trust in what you love, continue to do it, and it will take you where you need to go. ~ Natalie Goldberg

If you’ve been following my blog for some time, you know that I’ve been going through a process to actualize my vision for my life: IGNITING THE POWER AND PASSION IN OTHERS…

You also know that part of that vision includes The Other Bottom Line.

But if that was the only thing I was working on, it would be insufficient. (My opinion anyway)

That’s why I’ve taken a hard look at my whole life and identified 5 major priorities that I intentionally think about every day in all that I do. These priorities are: God, My Tribe, My Needs, My purpose, and My Health.

This journey I’ve been taking is exciting and life-giving!

It is also scary and risky and some days I wonder what the hell I’m been thinking!

But I want you to know that I would not go back and change a thing.

What do you love?

If you could fill your days doing the things that give you life, what would that look like?

The fatal metaphor of progress, which means leaving things behind us, has utterly obscured the real idea of growth, which means leaving things inside us. ~ Gilbert Chesterton

“I have to project a certain image,” I explained.beoriginal

“There is a certain way I need to present myself.

If I don’t set an example…if I don’t draw the line, they won’t think I’m a professional.”

“BULLSHIT!”

I looked at her in stunned silence – exasperated.

Why didn’t she get it?

“What’s with all this executive crap? It’s not you,” she blurted that day three years ago.

Then softly, “You’ve lost so much of who you are – if you don’t snap out of it, you’ll be lost for good.”

Oh… now I get it!

She was right of course.

She never was one to mince her words and maybe that’s why we’ve been friends for over 20 years.

In my effort to be successful I was doing what they expected of me.

And in the doing, I’d lost the very passion that had brought me there in the first place.

Be careful who you choose to be.

Be mindful of the dreams you chase and why.

Resentment is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die ~ Carrie Fisher

Does that even make sense?

You could spend a lifetime analyzing where things went wrong and who is to blame.

You could ponder the what ifs until the end of time.Desolate_Wasteland_by_zevensoft

Turn it all over in your mind a hundred times convinced that your life would have been better if he hadn’t betrayed you

if you had never met her, if she’d never been born

if they had never moved into your town.

Only you will suffer

inviting bitterness into your life.

~

Or you could shake off the dust

shake off your anger

shake off your hatred

and start a new day with a smile on your face, love in your heartpeaceful-place

and a new and stronger determination to be what you want to find in this world.

You can choose to forgive

take the lessons you’ve learned and move on

stay true to who you are.

You will shine in vibrant beauty and draw goodness to you

inviting joy into your life.

It’s your choice.

And we could feel the heat of a thousand voices telling us which way to go.

And we cried out is there no escape from the words that plague us so. ~ Sarah McLachlan, Drawn to the Rhythm

Recently someone I know was struggling with a decision.

Someone who needed to be reminded that she should listen to her gut, her inner voice.

I’ve been in this place several times – we all have.

We want to do the right thing…

for you

for me

for him

for her

for them.

Maybe we should speak our mind…

or perhaps we should sit back and listen, absorb every word and try to understand.

A thousand voices weigh in…

from a lover

a friend

a child

a parent

Every piece of advice…

well-meaning well-intentioned…

meant for our good, for their good, and coming from a thousand life experiences.

Sometimes the answer seems hard to come by…

it keeps us awake at night…

consumes us in the day.

Have we forgotten to trust our gut, our inner voice?

Do you trust your instinct?

In the end…it is you that has to live with your decision

Go ahead…you know the answer.
