200 words, alone, daughters, Diana Schwenk, Diana's Enormous Book of Quotes, family, fire, four elements, passion, powerful, Purpose, Tennesse Williams, true to yourself

“We’re all of us sentenced to solitary confinement inside our own skins, for life! ” ~ Tennessee Williams

I don’t totally agree with this statement but I can see why Tennessee said it. Because when all is said and done, we have to live with the decisions we’ve made and the consequences of those decisions.

If this is true, it becomes even more important to be true to yourself.

Doing things just to please someone else seems silly.

I’m not talking about compromise here. To live successfully in a family or community, negotiating is important and necessary.

I’m referring to life decisions and using your gifts to make the world a better place while remaining true to yourself.

GRADB&W

I spent the weekend with my daughter and I asked her which of the four elements she relates to the most. She chose fire.

In her words, fire is powerful, evolving, constant, without limitations. It gives life, warms, does not adhere to rules and creates opportunities.

I see these same amazing qualities in her. I hope she always stays true to them.

I hope she will do what she loves while passionately employing her natural abilities.

Diana Schwenk, four elements, mission, Mission statement, passion, Who I am

Some time back when I was working on my personal vision and mission statement, I did an exercise that was meant to give me action words that could later be applied to my personal statements.

My vision and mission statements are featured on my blog. In case you missed them, they are:

VISION: Igniting the power and passion in others…

MISSION: I relate with, promote and speak community wherever I am…

~

But today I just want to share about one part of the process that led to these statements.

In this exercise, I had to choose which element (Earth, Water, Air and Fire) I most related to.

I chose Fire.

The next step was to think about the characteristics of fire and write them out as if they described me.

Below is what I ended up with:

I, Diana, am Fire

Burning

Bright

Blazing

Renewing

Spreading

Consuming

Orange

Red

White

Blue

Powerful

Hungry

Warming

Wild

Catchy

Then I had to write down what fire does as if it was what I do.

I burn, warm, light, mesmerize, dance, crackle, hunger

I purify, save, destroy, comfort and excite.

~

I, Diana, am Fire

Igniting the power

And passion in others

I give warmth

On cold, wintry nights,

And clear the way

For new beginnings.

It was truly a self-discovering journey for me and eventually led to the writing of my vision and mission statements.

Which of the four elements best describes you?

What are its characteristics?

Can you apply them to yourself?
