“Common sense is instinct. Enough of it is genius.” – George Bernard Shaw
GOD TRIBE NECESSITIES PURPOSE HEALTH
It’s time for spring cleaning. It’s time to de-clutter.
And I’m not talking about my domicile.
There’s been some changes of late.
Things I’m excited about.
And other things that weigh on my heart – that with a little fixing – I may yet, be excited about.
And it strikes me that when I have a lot going on, whether it’s good or bad, the first things that get thrown by the wayside are the things that give me energy and life; the things that spiritually feed and sustain me.
So I’ve come back to the (above) five priorities I set for myself back in January 2014. Although the definitions under each have changed a little since then, these priorities are still a grounding force for me.
Common sense tells me I can’t keep doing everything I did before I started my wonderful new job and thus it’s time for spring cleaning so that I can focus on the things that are important to me.
~ DIANA’S ENORMOUS BOOK OF QUOTES ~
What are your priorities? How do you create space to stay focused on them?

I love your definition of Tribe. And I think your priorities are spot-on what I would choose. 🙂

Diana, I like your list of 5 priorities. De-cluttering is something I need to do. So far I’ve managed to cut back my blogging a bit to allow room for more fiction writing, and I’ve changed my morning routine so I can get started on my writing and editing before I go online. It all happened because we went away for a couple of days and I saw how much more fulfilled I felt when I saved my mornings for quiet times and writing. A change is definitely as good as a rest in my case. As always, I love your quotes. ❤

Diana, I was thinking about you and how often you blog and visit other blogs, and now with your new job — how do you do it? I can understand why you need to prioritize. I love what Kath said here in the comments, and I agree with everything she said. The blogosphere wouldn’t be the same without you in it. So yes, cut back, take care of yourself, but please don’t ever stop blogging! We’d miss you too much. ❤

I have some things I need to take care of and after that I’ll probably be back close to full force. Reading posts and writing posts is one of things that feed me after all. ❤

Me too but for different reasons. Having lost my wonderful job I now have too much time on my hands and feel useless as I have let things go a bit with paperwork and the house and, having decluttered the clutter is somehow creeping back. Ah well, good luck and tomorrow is a new day!

I’m not really a listmaker but I have just a few key daily priorities plus insert some bigger/different tasks or milestone activities.
Let me guess, will your blog writing be affected?

When I first saw your 5 words, Diana, I was trying to make them into a sentence. It’s good to not do that. Taking inventory on a constant basis is what keeps us whole. Don’t let yourself be willingly pulled in too many directions…you will lose focus of those 5 very noble pursuits. Congrats on not living an “unexamined life”…that makes you special. ❤️ And you are always willing to share that with us here. Hugs to you. Van

I think it is extremely important to make time for things that nourish you, mind, soul and body. Without that your work, social and personal life may suffer. Life is all about balance. All of any one thing and you quickly become unbalanced. For me, Yoga is an important part of my life. When things get busy and I find myself not making time for Yoga, I know I need to re-balance. In the end I try to be present in each moment, instead of rushing through each task and onto the next. This has taken a lot of discipline. We have been taught multi-tasking is good when it is not.

I think that’s great that you take the time to recalibrate your perspective every now and then. Spring cleaning can be done all throughout the year, right? Thanks for giving me these thoughts – need to take some time to re-group myself 🙂

Diana I am never disappointed when I come over here, you always have something amazing or interesting to share. I think its because you write from the heart and we see you in every sentence. You are consistently giving and so I understand why you need to stop and rethink your priorities. Remember a new adventure (new job) will bring with it a fresh new spark of interest. With that comes a newborn energy and I look forward in reading where it takes you. Enjoy the moments of peace before the new life change takes over, you deserve it.

That moment of clarity hit me in May, Diana. Right after I posted my Mother’s Day story, I decided to take a break. I was drained. Recharging and prioritizing are vital. Get your “house” in order and then have a mental/spiritual break. It’s good for the soul and even better for your health. ❤

This is a good question Diana. Hard to answer sometimes. I’ve come to the point in my life where I can let go of some things to be more present with people. But….then I miss the outlet and the need to do things that I have a desire to do. It is difficult to balance between what we “want” to do and what we “really want ” to do!!!

I think it’s really important to stay focused. I’ve been out of the loop socially for a while. I’m about to jump back into the vortex, but with different expectations and my to-do list in my back pocket. My social life has got to remain a lower priority in order to get things done!
