After a good dinner one can forgive anybody, even one’s own relations – Oscar Wilde
As you know, Canada had Thanksgiving in October and the food was great but it was the company that was truly outstanding!
Sure some people picked at their plates and others were still angry about that thing that happened forever ago, but when we sat around the table to eat, all that yesterday stuff was forgotten. We ate. We were thankful. There was love.
So yeah, I know you are anxious about Thanksgiving dinner but as you can see it turns out ok, so you can relax and loosen your grip on that knife!
I wish I could be there with you! I know, I know, we’ve had our quarrels about who invented hockey and basketball – Canada did – but that’s not the point. The point is we are thankful for you, our neighbours south of the 49th parallel and the further south you are, the better. And if you invite us over during winter, we’re even more thankful!
But I digress. You’re family. You’re like our big brother and we know your occasional jabs at us are your way of saying you love us too. And we know we can be a little pesky at times like little siblings do. However, Thanksgiving is a time when we lay all that aside.
It’s a time to reflect on, and be grateful, for family, friends and all the little blessings in our lives. So we raise our glasses to you with warm thoughts in our hearts and prayers for your health and joy on our lips.
So while you celebrate Thanksgiving and enjoy your meal, know that we are thinking of you and wondering why you didn’t invite us for dinner.
~ HUMP DAY CHRONICLES ~
Happy Thanksgiving USA!
*Sorry Alaska. We do not mean to offend you by seemingly not acknowledging that you are indeed north of us, but your location really messes with our whole ‘south of the 49th parallel’ schtick.*

Thanks for the wishes, northern neighbor! 😉
If you guys did invent basketball, then I’m grateful since that’s my favorite sport. Hockey…eh, not so much!

You (Canada), them (US), us (Australia); we all share the same mother (Great Britain). Now, I don’t want to be pedantic, but the 1776 date wasn’t when they were born but rather when they grew up and left mother. You did it in 1867 (or was it really 1931 or 1982?) and we grew up in 1901. Although unlike big brother, mother just cannot quite let us go completely in all respects.

Yup it was 1867! and Canada was born that year! 😉 technically…I don’t often hear the word pedantic…I believe it has German roots, the word that is…Thanks for making me smile. 🙂

Well you got me thinking. So I looked up the meaning of pedantic and came across a definition that said ‘pedantic is a pedantic word that should be avoided so you don’t come across as being pedantic’
So today, I will go with you being ‘technically’ correct. ….. have a great day :).
(PS. I do not know why the US has Thanksgiving so late, and so close to Christmas. Canadians have better sense).

Haha. Thanks for letting me win that one. As for thanksgiving, my guess is it’s related to the harvest which happens earlier in Canada than most of the States.

We would love to have you in a crazy vid… I bet you can get a little kid friendly crazy yourself. But only if you us a Canadian accent…you know, down here you would have the accent. If it were the other way around I know it would be me. ..if you can’t make dinner tomorrow come for dessert.

Wouldn’t have it any other way! Be ready for a couple curious looks from Dylan. And then she’ll wrinkle up her nose to tell you you don’t talk right. And you two can debate how she is the one that doesn’t talk right. It would be worth the trip!

Love it! Thank you for such a fun and gracious post, Diana! BTW, I sometimes view Canada as our mature, patient, and loving older brother and the USA as his younger siblings who are energetic, curious, noisy, messy, and often break things.

haha! But seriously… you’re older born 1776, right? We’re youngens just born 1867! So we have less wrinkles!!! 😉

Haha love the humour in this. Oh how every Canadian I’ve met is so adamant that they are not to be mistaken for being American!
A very heartwarming and funny post, Diana. Made me laugh. Love to both siblings! And there’s never a reason not to take every opportunity to give thanks 😀

Glad you enjoyed it. Don’t get me wrong I love my Americans, it’s just that when travelling Canadians are treated better. That’s why I have a Canadian Flag on my backpack!
I guess in a way I am from America. My Uncle in Germany thinks of Canadians as Americans, just as he thinks Germans are European.

Now I’m confused I thought the USA was just another province of Canada that you allowed to have independence so many years ago… (Now I might just be accused of stirring the pot, but I did read that Canada invented hockey and basketball)… this post gave me a good laugh… sounds a bit South African and their provinces…
