Time is making fools of us again. ~J.K. Rowling
You got a minute? Don’t even say you don’t.
I know you do because you just gained an hour.
How do you feel about that?
Over the years I’ve heard these reasons to justify Daylight Saving.
- It saved people one hour of candle burning each day during the winter.
- More afternoon light increased daily productivity during the harvest.
Maybe back in the day when people woke at sunrise and went to bed shortly after sunset, it made sense. But now-a-days?
If I get up at 6AM in order to get to work on time and go to sleep at 10PM in order to get 8 hours of sleep, how does Daylight Saving save the energy I use. Either I have my lights on longer in the morning or I have them on longer in the evening, either way, my lights are on the same length of time.
I don’t get it.
I’m good with gaining this hour, but why must I lose an hour in the spring?
From this day forward, let’s just leave the clock alone. Who’s with me?

I definitely agree! It doesn’t make sense to me, either. Also, I’m so sorry about your dad. *HUG* ❤

It makes no sense to me either. Our work day is determined by the sun, not by clocks. The roosters starts crowing just before dawn, and the pigs want their breakfast, no matter how we humans are choosing to measure time. It must benefit someone or they wouldn’t keep doing it. But all it does around here is confuse things for a while,

I completely agree. I know people would freak out about losing the hour permanently but if it was a one time thing whats the harm. I love daylight savings time in the summer months.

I actually LOVE daylight savings. It makes it feel as if I have an extra hour each day, even though logically I know that I do not.

Diane, maybe we should ask our new PM if he’ll stop the silly time change? I just want to leave my clock alone. But at least I have a clock, a bed, a home etc. Hey, I just cheered myself up. 😉

It’s a little annoying, all that clock changing mostly. I get defiant and leave some of the clocks as is so at least half the year they’re right!

Its worse than that. A year is 365 days 5 hours 48 minutes 46 seconds. So, every four years we get an extra day, but that leaves 11 mins and 14 secs unaccounted for. The government is adding 11 mins and 14 secs. Where are they getting it from, that’s what I’d like to know. Is it being borrowed and will we have to pay it back. These things worry me. The question is; do they worry me because I’m daft or am I daft because they worry me ? I think I’d rather not know.
Have a nice day.

Every 100 years we do not have a leap year, then every 400 years we do. That is how they make up that 11 minutes and 14 seconds. As the year 2000 was in the category of ‘every 400 years’ our generation did not get to experience the skipped leap year.

I don’t get it either, Diana, and neither does my bf Michael. Last night, as we were having our five-year celebratory anniversary dinner, this was a main topic of conversation. I suggested that Michael run for President of the USA on the “Don’t Change the Clocks” platform, because I believe this could unite everybody.

We have the same debate down here downunder! Some states do it and some do not, which creates a few issues. Apparently the farmers find it difficult because it disturbs the feeding times and milking habits of the animals. There is more to consider than just changing the clock.

I never change the clock in my car. It’s not that I don’t know how… It’s that I’m taking a stand against DST! Yeah, that’s it… a stand!
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. 😐

But when you think about SAD, maybe it isn’t so humorous after all. 😕 I vote for abolishing DST.

Parents of young children often feel like screaming at daylight saving, what child likes to go to bed/asleep when it is still daylight outside. I can take it or leave it I don’t need time to adjust to the change as some (Tim) who do

OMG…it’s the Time Apocalypse !! How I love that video, Diana. It does seem archaic, doesn’t it ?? And now, I arose early, waited for husband to get up to change the 72 clocks we have to adjust. Someone needs to make it stop !! 🕗 🕘 🕙 🕚 🕛 🕜 🕝 🕞 🕟

I saw a news article today about Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) that takes hold with the time change. Another complication we don’t need. I have the luxury of getting out earlier in the day for my sunlight…not all do. 🌞
