“We need places to scream and run wild as well as places to be quiet.” ― Marty Rubin

I ONCE DATED A GUY WHO TOLD ME IT WASN’T REALISTIC FOR US to think we could allow ourselves to dream or go on playing forever; eventually we have to become grownups and put that foolishness behind us.

I told him I did not agree.

It’s funny though because I was drawn to his serious and purposeful quietness and he was drawn to my joyful spontaneity.

I learned a lot about backing up my dreams with action from him

and I think he learned how to occasionally let go and have fun from me.

Sure, we have to work

we have to pay bills

we have to be committed and responsible to, and for, our loved ones.

But I do not think we have to give up dreaming and playing!

What do you think?

Check out the fun these grownups created for themselves below

How do you ensure that you strike up a good balance in your life? Do you think that opposites attract? Could you see yourself playing human foosball?

Over-the-horizon

Perhaps he knew, as I did not, that the Earth was made round so that we would not see too far down the road. ~ Isak Dinesen

CALL ME A REBEL, a lunatic or a non-conformist, but I just don’t believe in 10 year plans. Humans are not wired to think that way. The most we can tactically plan for is a year, 18 months tops!

Over the years, it has been my experience that much of what we plan beyond the first year has to be revamped or scrapped altogether. That just makes me feel like I’m wasting my time. And I don’t like wasting my time!

We cannot know how the environment will change. Just look at the recession of ’07 as an example.

“But Diana, you’re always talking about vision and mission and dreams…”

Yes I am! My vision to ignite the power and passion in others, or my mission to relate with, promote and speak community do not, however, have mapped out tactical strategies for 2016, 2017, or 2024.

Who I am and what I do alerts me to opportunities that are present in the now and, no doubt, will shape my future.

For a seed to achieve its greatest expression, it must come completely undone. The shell cracks, its insides come out and everything changes. To someone who doesn’t understand growth, it would look like complete destruction. ~ Cynthia Occelli

time-period-for-seed-germinationMy BFF hates to plan.

She says every time she makes a plan, something happens and her plan fails.

As recent as four years ago, I had been with the same organization for 20 years.

I’d grown up with the organization and held a variety of positions over the years. I loved it there!

I figured I would stay there until I retired. That was my plan.

Then it fell apart. Everything I knew, everything I believed was turned on its head. And it became painful for me to stay there, but I was too afraid to leave.

I was afraid because my identity and purpose were tied into my role. I thought leaving would strip me of who I was. I thought it would destroy my life.

When I finally left, it was devastating. I was broken.

Or that’s how it seemed.

Little did I know that it would be the beginning of new growth.
