Sometimes I just sit on the floor, pull my knees up and hug them. Because that’s how I roll. ~ taken from a friend of a friend’s facebook status update

Because that's how I roll...

Because that’s how I roll…

Oh how I laughed when I first read this status update!

Not at first, mind you. I thought it was going to fit more into the “curl up into the fetal position because life sucks” category.

But it didn’t. Who knows, the author may have been having a tough go of it, but she chose to take the sting away with humour.

Humour, after all, is often born out of tragedy. Something unwanted happens and we make a joke about it.

It helps us cope.

So when I opened my curtains on Saturday morning and saw the snow, I chose to laugh it off. 🙂

Things don’t always go the way we plan them. We make mistakes. We do embarrassing things. It snows on May 3rd.

Maybe we just need to laugh it off.

Do you use humour to defuse difficult situations?

Laughter is good for the heart, literally!

Always be a little kinder than necessary. – J.M. Barrie

woman-cryingI admire many qualities in people, but the greatest quality I’ve witnessed is kindness.

Anyone can be kind, it costs you nothing or very little, and often comes back to you in surprising ways.

When the woman in front of you is short a few cents at the check out, give her your change. Charity is love in action.

When you finally get your coffee after waiting in line forever at the ‘Drive Through,’  pay for the guy behind you too. Generosity is contagious.

When you see a homeless man passed out on the street, make sure he’s ok, call an ambulance if need be and wait with him there. He won’t feel so alone.

When the cashier seems rude, flash her a smile and say thank you when she give you your change. Smiles are gifts.

When a student drops all his books as crowds rush by and further scatter them, help him retrieve them. He’s not alone.

When a woman sits slumped over on the curb and is crying, ask her if there is anything you can do to help. Compassion heals.

“I wish grace and healing were more abracadabra kind of things. Also, that delicate silver bells would ring to announce grace’s arrival. But no, it’s clog and slog … on the floor, in the silence, in the dark”~ Anne Lamott

I can still hear my parents saying, “No one ever said life would be easy.”light

Considering what they went through as children in war-time Germany, I really didn’t have too much to complain about…

I’ve had my share of troubles in life – we all have.

Some worse than others

loss of loved ones

illness

anxiety over money

struggles of conscience

betrayals

and the list goes on.

But through it all there are moments of respite…

we catch a glimpse of light

we receive the comfort of human touch

we are gifted with words of encouragement

and we cling to hope.

It’s true, life isn’t always easy, in fact it’s mostly not easy, but is it worth it?

for the lessons learned

the friendships forged

the knowing that we are all connected – sometimes needing, sometimes needed

and always held in the embrace of grace.

May you know grace in times of trouble
