Diana Schwenk, life, living in the moment, sightseeing, Travel, United States of America, Washington DC
On Thursday, August 31st, I boarded a plane for Washington, DC via Toronto, with Board Chair of Oxford House Foundation, Debra Johnstone, to attend the 19th Oxford House World Convention.
It was both inspiring and educational! While there, Debra and I took the opportunity to tour the National Mall. I have to say that the White House is smaller than I imagined it would be, but just as guarded as I had imagined. And the Lincoln Memorial which I have always wanted to visit, was grander than I’d ever imagined. In total we walked about 13km, and believe me, I was feeling it the next day!
Here are some photos I took at the National Mall and around our hotel.
If you would like to see a video of my finger and a group of people gathered to support and defend DACA, play the video below.

So glad you appreciated its beauty, Diana, no matter what you hear…lol. We lived just north of DC in Maryland for 4 years, spent a lot of time taking friends there, and you’re so right…it is a place for walking. If you ever get back…go to the Smithsonian, you can spend days there and not see it all. Glad that you were treated kindly. And those protests…even in good times, there is always something going on there.

I loved Washington DC. Was there in the spring over 20 years ago for 2 days. I must have visited over 4 different national museums and galleries. Plus monuments.

I thought about you and others too, but my trip was mostly business and I had to get back to work, Lisa. How far is N.Y. from DC? ♡

Wow you walked a lot…. but that is what you do when you are in another town. I walked 15 km in Barcelona in August and slept extremely well afterwards…. The pictures are great. Someone else mentioned to me that the White House seems smaller than they imagined… obviously it is. 🙂 Good to see so much !

True, one does walk more when being a tourist! Ever heard of that 800 mile pilgrimage they do in Spain??? People go for months and stay at hostels. ❤

My friend did a weeks pilgrimage in Spain, she enjoyed it. I try to walk 8000 steps each day, that is only 6 km though. Walking is good, we sit too much ( me at work) so it is good to walk , and saves petrol in the car. 🙂
