Sometimes you find that you already have what you need…
Well I pulled another Diana. Sometimes I wonder where my head’s at.
For weeks I’ve been driving around without windshield washer fluid. I know, I know, it’s not the smartest thing to do. In fact the other morning I barely saw the man who ran across 17th Avenue as I was driving to work with the sun in my eyes.
So finally on Thursday, I stopped in at the gas station to buy some windshield washer. I popped the hood, filled up on the fluid and opened the trunk to store the rest. And what to my chagrin did I see? A half jug of windshield washer fluid already neatly stored in the right-hand corner of my trunk.
Quite the metaphor for everyday life too. Sometimes we put off doing something because we don’t feel qualified, or we can’t do it because we’ve never done it before, or we don’t have what it takes to do the job.
But often, the truth is if we just start doing it, learning as we go, we come to discover that we’ve had what we needed all along.

Wow, I can relate to that, Diana! I “outsmart” myself like that all the time. Eh … maybe I’m not so smart some days, huh?

Soooo true! This metaphor works in so many aspects of life. And of writing. Sometimes I’m so afraid to just sit down and DO IT. Just write it. And then when I finally put the rear end to the seat of the chair and start writing – yup, I had it in me all along….

Diana, I do that also…. I keep forgetting that I have something and get the new and find the old. That is how it works really! 🙂

Yes so true Ute. It works the other way too. When I have a missing sock, I keep its partner for a while in case the other shows up. Eventually I toss it and THEN its partner shows up! ❤

That is true. you know I lost my key in the house and cannot find it, so I changed my lock, but kept the old one just in case I find it. But still not so far. I guess once I throw it I will find the key……

Perfect analogy! Clearly seeing we already have what we need, when we slow down, look and listen. Very wise Diana.

Why do we put off doing the simple things? At least, I do it too — maybe no one else does, but I am with you in that boat — and then, once I do them, the relief lasts only as long as the next simple thing to avoid turns up! 🙂
