It’s only been a short time since Dad passed away. The hardest is when I forget and then remember again that he is gone. This morning though, a small blessing, a moment of grace to start my day.
A comforting dream, just before I awoke.
I was walking from the back bedroom of their house toward the kitchen. And there was Dad, just as he’d always been when I’d been there on previous visits, except he was standing – with no pain on his face, wearing that white shirt with navy and red stripes and making me an instant morning coffee.
Mom joined him from the dining room and both of them lifted their eyes up from the coffee to greet me.
Then I woke up.
Thanks for my morning coffee and checking in on me Dad. You must have known how much I am missing you.

Diana this dream is surely your gift from your Dad trying to tell you he is okay. I rarely dream of my Dad these days but when I did it felt so comforting. I hope your days are filled with family and love. We miss them but they will always live on in our dreams and hearts. BIG HUGS from across the sea.

Some of my strongest memories of my father, not dreams, are the seminal moments when I’m leaving him and saying good-bye… but he is driving me to a bus station, subway station because I was going back to my home in another city, and waiting with me, until the public vehicle came. He didn’t have to …since I was already in my 20’s—even 50’s.

Beautiful, Diana.
When I had lost my mom I, too, was blessed with dreams such as yours.
God knows what it is to lose a loved One. We suffer along with them as they make their way toward the moment we must all face one day. Yet we are left with but the memory of the struggle and then their absence. But, we have faith in knowing that as the storm passes the clouds separate, the darkness fades and sun light shines through.
God has blessed you with your dream. For He has given you a glimpse of seeing what your faith has promised.

I always love the dreams I have with my dad. After seven years I still have to remind myself that I can’t just pick up the phone and ask him how to do something. Dreams are a great feeling of spending time with your dad.

You’re welcome, and thank you, Diana. It was a great shift. I came home, ate letover turkey with my dear wife Karen, watched football on TV for a little while, and was asleep in no time, dead tired from nonstop action at the store. 🙂

Diana this was amazing. What a beautiful gift he gave you. You said it so well, the part about remembering anew that he is gone. That is so difficult. Getting used to someone not being here…. I’m glad he came to see you again to help.

I am so sorry, Diana. It is SO hard to lose a parent! Both of my parents are gone (but then, I am much older than you,) and I still have those kind of moments when I think, ” Mom would like that” or Dad would laugh at that.”
Oddly, it seems that my relationship with them has been growing. As I think about what either one of them would have enjoyed knowing – or I would enjoy telling – it’s like the rough edges that tripped us up when I was younger and they were still alive are no longer an issue.
Enjoy the dreams, the rememberings, and give yourself time.
Wishing you peace and grace,
