Be someone who makes someone else look forward to tomorrow. ~ Unattributed
Do you know someone who makes you feel like you’re the only other person in the room?
At that very moment you are the most important person in the world?
I’ve been blessed to know a few people like this.
Once, some twenty years ago, I met a couple in their late 50s/early 60s who came to the office I was working at to chat with my boss; a long-time friend of theirs.
During their visit, I was introduced to them. I immediately felt loved by them. We chatted, and when they left, I was sad to see them go.
When they were gone, their aura of warmth lingered and I hoped I would have opportunity to see them again. Later that day, and much to my glee, I noticed that the man had left his wallet on my desk.
I picked up the phone to call and let them know, I could not contain my joy – I would see them again!
I want to be like that for someone

Yes, the gentleman has since passed away. I met their daughter at his funeral and she’s just as amazing – we are dancing buddies. Her brothers and sisters are awesome too and the mom – she’s the coolest person ever Rachel! ❤

Diana, I agree this is rare. A couple of my lifelong friends are so good at this that my children love them too. An article I read suggested that when we listen to someone we should pretend we’re going on a journey we’ve never been on before and give the one talking our full attention, as well as leaving pauses for the speaker to gather their thoughts and perhaps go on to say something unexpected and profound. I needed this reminder. ❤

Diana I had a neighbour who was in her seventies. If you went over for a cup of tea it would be hours before you returned. Stories, many laughs and the best home made sponge cake was usually the order of the day. She is gone now but when I remember the joy of Ollie I remind myself that she always had visitors because she made every one of us feel so special and most of all we always had a laugh. I hope I can do that too.

Ollie sounds like a peach of a gal Kath. You must miss her – sorry for your loss.
I love that even in her 70s she made such a difference in this world. Like you, I hope I can do that too. Something to look forward to in the golden years… ❤

I LOVE when that happens, Diana. Hardly an event that comes up often for me, but when it does, wow. The last time it happened for me was when I met a woman in our community who sparked that special chemistry and ultimately became a close friend.
I just read your comment on another blog that you have a new job. Congrats! And Happy Mother’s Day! ❤

Diana,
What a great experience. I believe we all have had at least one such encounter in our lives. Often they come when they are most needed. In my case, one such encounter was with my polio doctor. At the age of four and for years of nurturing by him afterwards. He always left me the belief that whatever I put my mind to I could accomplish.
We are all given an opportunity to be an angel to someone. All we need do is to behave like one; even if for only a moment. What a difference can be made in a life in need.
Especially on this special day, think of how many times that our mom, or mom, your child, has made you look forward to tomorrow. Even if just to share another day together.
Happy Mother’s Day, Diana.

“Have you ever met and liked someone immediately?”
Honestly? No. And now I’ve been so disappointed and hurt by people so many times that I’m very slow to warm to anyone anymore.
Maybe the problem is I never met enough people like you. You’re rather a rare gem of a person, Lady Di.

Yes. Yes. And more yes. I have felt that way, so very many times. It is the good part of moving around the country. You can’t take your friendships for granted, and you have to open up to the possibility of meeting those who touch your soul; sometimes even right away. It’s such a joy to connect with strangers in a way that makes you believe you were destined to cross paths, or have even known them before. We are all so much more alike than different ! Thanks, Diana. Sweet post. ❤ Van
