We may not always see eye-to-eye.
And often we playfully tease each other.
But when the poop hits the fan, we’re there for each other.
I was recently reminded of this when a Canadian soldier was shot in Ottawa.
President Obama assured Canadians that America would stand with us.
American citizens offered their support and condolences.
On a personal level, many of my American friends offered their sympathy and support.
So as you sit around your tables tomorrow surrounded by loved ones and declaring your thankfulness, know that your Canadian brothers and sisters are raising a glass to you in grateful expression.
Happy Thanksgiving USA. May our friendship and mutual support endure forever.
The video below still brings a tear to my eye when I watch it.
Before a hockey game in Pittsburg between two American teams, O Canada is sung in support of Ottawans and Canadians across the country in response to the shooting of an unarmed Canadian soldier standing guard at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
~ HUMP DAY CHRONICLES ~
May God bless our southern neighbours this Thanksgiving season. We love you!

It’s great to see a post detailing the appreciation we have for each other rather than our differences (which tends to be much more common).
Another thing I never expected was how much meeting Americans while travelling feels so much like home. We really have so much in common, our humour and demeanours are so relatable. Our favourite people we’ve met while traveling have all been Americans.
Great post Diana, way to spread the love!!

At a recent hockey game in Canada, Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Nashville Predators, the mic failed when a woman was singing one of the U.S.’s patriotic songs. The huge Canadian crowd joined in and helped finish off the lyrics. I loved that support and brotherly/sisterly love. Thank you, Diana. 😉 http://inspiremore.com/canadians-finish-singing-americas-most-monumental-song-and-show-us-the-true-meaning-of-unity/

Thanks for sharing that video Judy – I love it! I can remember crossing the Canadian/American border with my parents in the pre-passport days and all they said was, “Are you all Canadians?” When we answered yes, they waved us through, as if we were just driving to another province…
You know, there was period of time when I honestly thought the American Anthem’s opening line was Jose can you see…?
Of course, this comes from the person who also thought the Rolling Stones’ Beast of Burden lyric was, ‘I’ll never bring you pizza burning…’ 😉

Interesting about Pittsburgh…
I think in the American border cities and towns, there’s far greater synergy between the U.S. and Canada. For instance, going to Seattle, I feel that. And Seattlers + VAncouverites feel closer in many things (environment, green anything, urban design, etc.), compared to Albertans and long time B.C. folks.

Thank you Diana for this wonderful post! We are gearing up for a great weekend in Michigan with family. But first we are stopping in the Indianapolis Humane Society shelter to play with some of the shelter dogs who need some love on Thanksgiving too. Personally I think it is the most wonderful way to kick off Thanksgiving day. 🙂

Many baseball fans were outraged there was no mention of events in Canada during the World Series. (And given that there is a Canadian MLB team, that was a strange omission.) Those Pittsburgh hockey fans got it right.
