He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has.” ~ Epictetus
Gratefulness makes us happy – it’s scientifically proven!
If being grateful makes me happy, I want to be grateful every day – not just on Thanksgiving.
Below are just some of the things that fill me with gratitude:
- The odds of conception are 15% – 25%. I was born. I am alive and well. Life is a gift I cherish.
- I am loved by family and friends. No matter what comes my way, I am not alone.
- I have the necessities of Life. Food in my stomach. A roof over my head.
- The teachers and mentors who have taught me important life-lessons and encouraged me in my journey.
- The opportunities I have had to help others along in their journey.
- I live in this beautiful country of freedoms and rights.
- I belong to a community of diverse people with unique gifts that can build a better world than we were born into.

That video was absolutely lovely ~ It inspires me to tell more people in my life about how meaningful they are to me.
I’m grateful for you sharing the video and your list of gratitude, Diana!
Thank you so much.<3

Thanks Andrea! That video made me cry. It almost seems more meaningful to the person sharing their gratitude than the person receiving it!

I had seen the video before and it brought me to tears when I watched it again. So often we get caught up in grieving for what we have lost or do not have rather than being grateful for what or who we do have. The video goes further though, actually letting people know you are grateful. Can you imagine how fantastic it would be for each of the receivers?
Thanks to you for being you, for your positive blog posts and for your encouraging comments to me 🙂

Hello. Just to let you know that I went and wrote two ‘thank you’ letters a few days after reading your post and watching that video. AND I have actually set up a ‘writing letters desk’ which I have wanted to do for a LONG time. (one of the advantages of living alone, I can set up these little nooks however I like). I LOVE writing letters and I have not really done that for a long time, with emails taking over. Thanks for the prompt 🙂

You’re welcome! Elizabeth what an amazing idea. I’m curious as ever to know how the people you wrote will respond!
I hope this can somehow fit into your blog theme in a future post with a picture of your writing letters desk! It’s been way over 20 years since I’ve written a letter.

Grateful for you for one thing that’s for sure! Don’t know how you manage to find time to spend on all your online friends (as that’s how you make me feel – like a friend!) along with all the time you spend being involved with so many people around you. Happy Thanksgiving! Yes I am thankful for the simplest things in life, that actually are the some of the most difficult to come by, e.g. family, good friends, clean air and water, the seasons, shelter, life….

I could write an encyclopedia on this, but I’ll list just one thing: hot water comes endlessly out of the faucet (this is a small miracle and I’m grateful for it every single day because I couldn’t function without a hot bath in the morning).

Indeed! It’s the recognition that the quality of my life is extremely high compared to the seven billion inhabitants of this Earth that keeps me going and sometimes even pulls me out of the occasional funk! Exactly as you listed: I’ve never been truly hungry, let alone wondered where my next meal would come from. I’ve always had a good roof over my head, and I’ve always been lucky in having decent health (despite some counter-productive behaviors over the years).
I’ve been unlucky in many ways, too. Born with a severe hearing defect that went uncorrected most of my life, which resulted in major social isolation and alienation. And there’s the flat feet, seasonal allergies, short-sightedness, chronic plumpness and bronchitis, but all-in-all I still think I came out ahead, and for that I’m indeed truly grateful. 😀
