Difficult things take a long time, impossible things a little longer. ~ Andre A. Jackson
You have a dream, a vision of what can be.
Some folks who mean well will believe in you, in your gifts and share your vision of the future.
They may even come alongside you to help bring it to fruition.
Others who also mean well may try to reason with you, they’ll tell you it’s too difficult, maybe impossible.
This often comes from a place of genuine concern, they want you to take the road well-travelled, to get your head out of the clouds, they want you to be OK.
And others may want you to just plain fail for their own personal reasons.
Words are powerful.
They have the power to encourage and discourage.
When a dream matters to you, I mean really matters – it is likely to be an uphill battle – brace yourself.
If you decide to follow your dream, have courage and stay focussed.
It’s just when you think you can’t press on, that you are standing on the threshold of realizing your dream.
~ DIANA’S ENORMOUS BOOK OF QUOTES ~
Don’t give up

Thanks for the pep talk, Diana. I needed that. I know some well-meaning folks who wanted me to have a “normal” job. There were bouts of unemployment, but I enjoyed the ride. Others, as you pointed out, just don’t want to see you succeed. Maybe, because they were afraid to try to step off the beaten path. 😉

This is really encouraging post Diana. Much needed. Sometimes we need to not hear the concerns of others and just keep our eyes on the vision, surround ourselves with inspiring people and keep walking.

Thanks Michael – a catchy phrase indeed. I don’t drink soda either! Come to think of it Coke really had it going on too; something about being the real thing! I will have to check out this movie, I’m not sure I’ve even heard of it.
Yes never give up is a good summary. May you have the grace and strength to follow your dreams too Michael.

I think you are right that some of that negative talk comes from a real place of concern – maybe even complacency. Seeing someone else push through is challenging to complacency, just as challenging as risk. Good words Dianne.

There will always be the naysayers who try to dissuade us from reaching a new potential. But Diana, as you know, nothing ventured, nothing gained! All you can do is give it your all, and there is no failure in that.

Di, the first thing that comes to mind are thougths around Time Management. and “If it is to be it is up to me” but i don’t know if that is the same line fo thinking you had or not. You have my email with this comment notification. Let me know if this parallels your idea or not.

I LOVE your image of the mountain. I wrote a post about it some time ago ( http://almostspring.com/2012/06/10/week-13-no-more-mountains/ ). What I did not realise when I wrote that post is that, at the time, it wasn’t a mountain I had to climb, but rather a hole I had to dig myself out of. Now that I have done that (well almost) and I have finally put my head above ground level, I can finally see the mountain ahead of me. And it is bathed in sunshine 🙂
Enjoy climbing the mountain and one day reaching your dreams. I will be one of the ones cheering you on.

Sometimes those other voices are worth considering. We can’t always see everything from our point of view; sometimes others have a more clear view and recognize pitfalls ahead for us. There are definitely some voices I would have been well-advised to have paid more attention to! That’s not to say you necessarily let them turn you aside, but if someone who cares about you and who knows you is giving you strong counter-signals, it may be worth pondering.
That said, you’re surely right that there are those who don’t want you to soar… usually because they cannot.

absolutely! I always consider the words of people I trust!
I have found that life sends you pitfalls, no matter what you decide to do. If I am to experience them, I’d rather have the comfort of following my heart and the opportunity to learn from my pitfalls as I go. I mean at least I can comfort myself with the fact that I am being true to my calling and not suffering the consequences of walking a path chosen for me by someone else. Make sense?
Having said that, I think it’s wise to consult trusted mentors and friends on the decisions I make along the way toward my dream.
You always make me think Smitty!

Well, you started it!
I once had a friend get upset with me because I’d sought her advice a number of times, but (in her eyes) always ignored it. She complained there was no point in asking if I wasn’t going to do it!
The idea that I ever do what someone tells me to aside [:P], she completely missed that her advice became part of the mix, and I definitely paid attention to it!
