A shark that stops swimming is dead in the water.
I’m not a shark!
I CAN STOP AND LIVE THROUGH IT!
What’s wrong with just living in the moment sometimes?
Why shouldn’t we celebrate what’s happening right now?
Did you just complete a long project? Take a moment for high-fives all around before jumping into the next project.
While you’re at it, why not thank all the good folks who rallied around you to make it work?
Don’t misunderstand me. I think it rocks to have purpose.
I think having a vision for what could be is life-giving and satisfying beyond words.
A life without acting on your dreams is wasted.
All true.
Just as important however…is being in the now.
Look around you for a minute.
Look at your spouse, your children, your parents, your siblings, your home
the life you have built together.
Aren’t they something?
What about your friends?
You know
those people who are like family to you?
Take a minute to appreciate how lucky you are to have them in your life.
And your co-workers – have a good look at them during your next meeting.
I mean really look, listen…
What are their gifts?
How do they contribute to the team?
How can you support and encourage them?
Aren’t you just the luckiest man/woman alive?
Inhale and exhale slowly.
Maybe the universe is trying to show you something.
Maybe God has a powerful message for you.
Are you listening???
I was the fortunate recipient and beneficiary of a 3-day Franklin Covey course a few years back.
Among many great learnings, the facilitators talked about personal victories as well as public victories.
I realized at the time that I had the public victories well in hand but my personal victories were found wanting.
They talked about scheduling time for me.
Microsoft Outlook is one of my favourite time management tools.
I don’t know where I’d be without it.
It keeps me organized and prevents me from double-booking myself. God forbid that I would ever fall off the grid because I wouldn’t know what I was supposed to be doing!
Inspired by this course I was able to schedule one more regular and important appointment to this useful tool – time for me!
In between doctor’s appointments and meetings I can schedule time with the people who mean the most to me, or schedule a walk – which I just love doing, or a movie, or a time slot to read that book I’ve been meaning to read.
~ HUMP DAY CHRONICLES ~
While you’re out there changing the world, don’t forget the now.
Time has a way of getting away from you.
I don’t want to be longing for the moments I could have celebrated and enjoyed when it’s too late.
Do you?

Terrific Post Diana. It is just as important to appreciate the here and now as it is to dream of the future. I’ve had a break from the blogosphere of late, still writing a little but limiting my time reading. I am glad to have dropped back in. I always love your perspective. 🙂 Blessings to you!

Yes life is a balancing act but have you noticed how many bloggers start the day very early to fit it all in. In the real world my 5 am starts are highly unusual, but in the blogging world, it is quite the norm. And I noticed one of your commentators begins at 3 am!

When I first read the title I thought, nope I am not a shark but more of a guppy!
But as I read you article, I then thought, no I am still not a shark but more of a dolphin…I have a purpose and although I work hard I try to enjoy life and as a dolphin frolics and jumps in the water I enjoy the stillness of the day as I re-energize and then jump for joy in praise to the day God gave me. Some days I frolic more than work – but those are the best kinds of days wouldn’t you agree?! 🙂

Love this post! I’m trying to figure it out. Time for me means time to write. OK, I’m doing it, but now I’ve lost any pretense of downtime. I’m working on it…:)

Great post! In my last job I failed to establish work/private time boundaries. I ended up working around the clock to finish projects. I lived in a neighborhood where my boss liked to go to lunch so he would pop in to “brainstorm” on a Saturday. I always had deadlines looming that kept me from taking my vacation time. I was completely burnt out when my time there was over. When I moved here I intentionally located my home far from work in a remote area. I very rarely answer emails on evenings or weekends. It makes me a better employee to be recharged. It makes life better too!

You are a wise woman! People will get from you as you give (work wise) it’s up to us to create balance. I love that you live in a remote area and I’m just a tad jealous!

I am in the now right now, D! I’ve been meditating daily. Journaling. Did you enjoy the Covey course? I’m so astounded and grateful for my blessing and this right here, right now. My hubby, my pups, a warm fire crackling and some pretty nice sunshine outside. Ahhhhh.
Love this post!!!

Sunshine makes everything better, doesn’t it? Glad you’re enjoying right now – good for you! I loved the Covey course, it’s very expensive – how lucky am I that a corporation paid for me to go???

A great reminder mid-week Diana, thanks. I often get to this point in the week and start feeling the pressure of the longer than expected to-do list that hasn’t diminished by as much as I’d have liked it to by now. There’s also other things that just overcrowd my mind and I need to remember to regain a balanced perspective.
Sometimes the pressures to keep moving come from outside, but more often than not,I don’t have to give in to them.
Great thoughts, thanks for sharing as always! X

Fabulous post. I agree — celebrating our victories, in the moment — those personal gains taht speak to our creativity, hardwork, initiative, commitment….
it’s so important!
In the now is made richer when we live it through knowing our purpose. I think the ‘in the now’ becomes challenging when we are unclear of our purpose and simply let circumstances dictate our doing so much that we forget about being present in the rapture of now.

The correct balance is everything, particularly home/work balance. There is much to be said for taking a step back and reassessing your balance from time to time. It can get out of kilter without you noticing.
