I can still hear my parents saying, “No one ever said life would be easy.”
Considering what they went through as children in war-time Germany, I really didn’t have too much to complain about…
I’ve had my share of troubles in life – we all have.
Some worse than others
loss of loved ones
illness
anxiety over money
struggles of conscience
betrayals
and the list goes on.
But through it all there are moments of respite…
we catch a glimpse of light
we receive the comfort of human touch
we are gifted with words of encouragement
and we cling to hope.
It’s true, life isn’t always easy, in fact it’s mostly not easy, but is it worth it?
for the lessons learned
the friendships forged
the knowing that we are all connected – sometimes needing, sometimes needed
and always held in the embrace of grace.

Yeah life isn’t easy and sometimes it seems so hard, I know I went through a time when it all seemed to hard and I wondered why it was so hard but then I would watch something on the history channel and it would reminded me what I feel is hard would seem so easy to some………many people have had harder lives………..I am lucky even if I forget it at times……….

The thing about ‘grace’ is that it has about 8 meanings and you can interpret the quote whichever way you want. The first time I read the quote I thought of the ‘slogging’ you do bringing up children (not all sunshine and roses) but if you do it with kindness and in a willing manner, then it can be said you have done it with grace. Now I understand the second part of the quote, that when you are really feeling anger or fear, one day in the silence or in the dark, you learn to let go of the feelings and show forgiveness or clemency which also means you have shown grace. In both instances by showing these forms of grace, one also gains grace – that of beauty and enrichment.
There is also the religious meaning of receiving grace.
Sorry for the lengthy reply but i think you have captured all of this for me in your post. It is a wonderful attribute – grace – and one which you have and this shines through.
And this is a wonderful and inspiring post.

Just yesterday I told my daughter, who was complaining about something rather small, “It’s not a perfect world.” And it was just like you say… I remembered my parents telling me the same thing. It’s very true. But it’s such a good, good world. We were outside, getting in the car, safe and healthy, sun shining, blue sky, breeze. You’ve captured my feelings in this post.
And interesting about your parents’ childhood in Germany. Have you written about that? I’d like to read more.
