“You know what’s probably a good thing to hang on your porch in the summertime, to keep mosquitoes away from you and your guests? Just a big bag of blood.” Jack Handey

Early this summer I probably had more mosquito bites than in the last 10 years combined.

We’ve had some unusually hot and muggy days.

I take two showers a day.

My apartment stays hot at night.

The heat and the scratching of bug bites makes it difficult to sleep.

My thick hair is akin to wearing a big fur Russian hat.

I can’t drink enough water to replenish all that I’m losing.

But I dare not complain.

I love summer.

I love the sun on my face.

I love the trees fully clothed in green leaves.

I love the smell of flowers in bloom.

I love taking walks through parks and along the river.

Where I live, summer is too short and it’s passing quickly – too fast for my liking.

Nights are cooler now and the days are getting shorter.

Before too long I will be trapped in the deep-freeze of ice and snow

and longing for the hot days of summer.

What’s your favourite season?
